Villa Copenhagen Hotel had the most anticipated hotel opening in 2020 in this beautiful Nordic capital. It’s a statement hotel, different to everything that I have seen in Copenhagen so far. The iconic Post Office building from 1912 reopened its doors on July 2020. They have given a new life to this large Neo-Baroque-style Post Office building. It took 3 years to complete all work and now Villa Copenhagen Hotel is a gem among the hotels in Denmark’s capital.

I had the pleasure to visit Villa Copenhagen Hotel already in August 2020. It was just after the opening during the Copenhagen Fashion Week. I visited this lovely hotel again the year after. I attended some fashion presentations at the Villa and I loved how modern and fashion-oriented atmosphere. Finally, this year for CPHFW I stayed in this lovely hotel. During 4 day stay, I could completely soak in the fashion atmosphere of the place. Moreover, I could experience the uniqueness of this hotel and review different angles of it for my lovely community. It was a little bit different stay than I originally intended. In August I was already 5 months pregnant and I decided to bring my whole family with me. Including my Yorkshire Matisse. So it was a family stay with a strong dose of Fashion, delicious food and a lovely atmosphere of one of my favourite capitals.

Villa Copenhagen Hotel during CPHFW.

Villa Copenhagen is surely a gem among Copenhagen hotels. It’s not only a luxury, 5* establishment, but also a sustainable hotel in the most ideal location. It matches the most loved Scandi chic style, sophistication and modernity. It’s a culture and art hub and it’s loved by locals, travellers and fashionistas just like me. I can tell you that staying there during Copenhagen Fashion Week took the whole experience to another level. Early morning I could see so many well-known influencers and editors at the gym in their perfect sportswear. During the breakfast, all fashionistas were already wearing their Fashion Week outfits and it was like a fashion show in the breakfast room. The first morning I was wearing comfy clothing but the following ones I put some effort into my look. It was so much fun, people were meeting each other, asking about the CPHFW and discussing their amazing outfits. Even my little son was turning his head around to admire all the colourful garments. As always there were a lot of showrooms and presentations in different suites and we could spot some well-known influencers all over the place. It’s definitely the Fashion Hotel in Copenhagen. Staying there during the fashion week is a must.

Villa Copenhagen History and Design

I already mentioned that the original building was before Denmark’s main post office and telegram centre. It’s a really interesting object and it’s beautiful how this old identity is still visible in the hotel. The style of the place is called: Conscious Luxury. A luxurious design and interiors are meeting eco-friendly solutions. Some of them are renewable energy, recycled materials and using local suppliers. In order to achieve the highest class of luxury hotel, the owner hired a famous company to complete the work. To name a few:

  • London-based Universal Design Studio oversaw the creation of 381 guest rooms. This includes a stunning penthouse suite and some public spaces.
  •  Danish jewellery brand Shamballa Jewels participated in the hotel design. Their works for example are the lights in the courtyard. They hang like precious pearl bracelets from the ceiling. 
  • Danish architect Eva Harlou designed the beautiful The Earth Suite. It’s a sustainable room made with only recycled materials and textiles.

Location and what to do in the area.

Villa Copenhagen is located next to Tivoli Gardens (Amusement Park) and the main train station. The train station is very well connected to the airport, so it makes this hotel very well located for tourists. It’s really an oasis in the middle of the city and you can get away with walking everywhere. Occasionally I took a bicycle, but it was not needed a lot.

Tivoli Gardens was actually one of the most visited places during our stay. My son loved it so much and I must say that even we spend a lot of quality time there. The complex is huge with many rides, and boutiques, but also lovely coffee places and restaurants. It’s the second-oldest amusement park in the world so it has a history to it. Apparently, it event was the inspiration for Disneyland. While children can enjoy many fun rides, adults can admire beautiful gardens or aquariums. We also were going there for ice cream and dinners. It’s a true wonderland and I recommend visiting it while staying at Villa. It’s only 5 min’s walk away.

Venue.

When I entered the lobby I was truly impressed with the contemporary design of the place. There is an eye-catching contrast between steel, wood, oak floors and comfy lounge sofas. The lobby is actually called a Courtyard and it serves many functions. There is a check-in desk, waiting area, restaurant, bar, a boutique, it can be also a working space. In the evening the space becomes very lively as there is a live performance with a DJ. Thanks to that it seems like it’s a popular meeting point for the locals. Although hotel guests enjoy the evening at Villa too.

When it comes to the other parts of the hotel, then I truly love all staircases and little common spaces near corridors. As it’s a large hotel and we could find many spots like this to set and relax. There is a lot of beautiful art all over and I have been told that there is a well-known curator who is in charge of this part at Villa Copenhagen Hotel. As an art historian, I can say that selection was very tasteful and matched the interiors perfectly.

A Design Room in a Scandi Style

Villa Copenhagen Hotel has 390 rooms and suites. So as you can see it’s a huge hotel with different accommodation types. We stayed in the Family Room. It’s a room for 2 adults and 1 child under 12 years. It is simple, not so big, but comfortable and enough for a small family like ours. What I really liked was the king-size bed that was absolutely wonderful to sleep in and relax during the day. There was also a sofa bed for my child. There was a well-equipped mini-bar, coffee machine and a large TV. What was surprising there was a steamer in the cupboard and I truly appreciate it. Thanks to that all my looks had no creases!

Each room in Villa Copenhagen Hotel meets very high standards. They not only look beautiful but are comfortable. It has a very sophisticated ambience. Rooms have a high ceiling, herringbone floors, and original windows. There are neutral colours in the room, with gold accents. Overall it’s a pleasant room to stay in.

The rooftop garden and heated pool.

The pool and Spa area are placed on the rooftop and are called “The Hidden Garden.” There is a 25-meter-long, heated swimming pool and a large relaxation zone. It is open all year long, which is very interesting considering the weather in Denmark. There are fabulous views of the city and also of Tivoli Park from this area. When it is sunny I could almost think that I am by the Italian Riviera thanks to the cute white and yellow umbrellas. What is also very interesting is the way the pool is heated. The heating system relies fully on the waste energy from the hotel. Truly a Scandi idea.

Near the Spa area, there is also a fitness room. It is not particularly large considering the size of the hotel. I felt that it was a bit too crowdy in the mornings, but during the day it was easier to use it (please bear that in mind if you are a frequent gym goer like me). The equipment was of very high quality and it was also quite stylish.

The famous Danish breakfast.

I love a good hotel breakfast and truly I couldn’t wait to try the one at Villa Copenhagen Hotel. Mostly because 2 years ago I was invited to the presentation with breakfast and I loved everything I tried. This time around Villa met the expectations and everything was as delicious as I remembered. The best part of breakfast in Denmark is always baked goods. They are famous for making one of the best bread and pastries. Villa Copenhagen Hotel has its own bakery called the RUG and they make all kinds of baked goods. Each bread I tried was more delicious than the other, same with pastries and even Berliner (better than I had in Germany or Poland). Apart from that, there was a huge selection of different toppings, cheeses, fruits and freshly made omelettes. I was not bored with the choice event after having breakfast there for 4 days in a row, this hardly ever happens. Everything was of the highest quality and well-presented. It was a pleasant start to the day, Scandi style.

The breakfast room was formerly the sorting room of the Post & Telegraph Office and it still has this vibe to it.

Bicycle – The must in Copenhagen.

Riding a bicycle in Copenhagen is its DNA. Everyone uses bicycles on a way to work and tourists love this way of exploring the city. Also, many people who came to the Copenhagen Fashion Week chose this way of arriving at the fashion shows. This sustainable, fast and healthy way of transport is something that I love a lot. Villa Copenhagen offers good quality bicycles to rent. They even have a basket for a handbag or shopping, it’s a very thoughtful idea.

Family and Pets.

Denmark is one of the most family-friendly countries that I know. If you have children or pets you will feel welcomed everywhere and appreciated. Also, you will see a lot of beautiful families around with sweet blood-haired children. The same thing can apply to the Villa Copenhagen Hotel. I have seen many families staying there. We actually took the last free family room during our stay, so it means it is a hotel family-friendly. If you have fur babies then it’s exactly the same. Pets are welcomed in the hotel and can accompany people in all the spaces. I actually was leaving my dog in the room a lot as he felt very comfortable there and didn’t bark at all.

Summary.

Copenhagen is definitely a European capital that is worth visiting. Fresh air, delicious food, friendly people and many interesting attractions to see are bringing a lot of tourists all year round. I would personally recommend coming in Summer if it’s possible. The weather is lovely and the city offers much more activities (of course including Summer at Tivoli). Regarding the stay at Villa Copenhagen Hotel… After 4 days stay I can truly recommend this place as the hotel to stay in Copenhagen. To recap, Villa Copenhagen is ideal for:

  • Conscious luxury-lovers
  • 5 * hotels guests
  • Art, Fashion and chic lifestyle enthusiasts
